Next to last section to finish the ‘Little Loop’! YIPEE!!! Once again Robin joined us- I think we can consider her a regular now! Hike today is all towpath, so expected a lot of fellow walkers and were not disappointed, in fact there were a few large groups. Can’t recall any bikers, though. Beautiful sunny day and we were rewarded early on with a nearby blue heron who actually seemed to be sleeping and oblivious to the attention he was gathering- never moved! There was a nice boardwalk above a marsh, perhaps created by a beaver, although none seen. Otherwise hike was uneventful except for a hunter shooting birds from a blind in the middle of a harvested field- never saw that before. Took a detour about halfway along to see where the stone to build the locks was carved out of a quarry and how it was transported- I love the historical features along the towpath and read everything- not sure rest of gang is as enthused about it. Near the end we were delayed as a young couple was getting professional pictures taken on a bridge (engagement?), several of us waited patiently for the photo-op to end. How lucky they are, such a great sunny day to enjoy- hope the sun shines on the rest of their days together.
I like that you take pictures of all the info plaques = D
Thanx! I have to agree with you and admit that I learned A LOT about the canal, its construction and influence on the surrounding neighborhoods by reading them all. Also gave us a little time to rest 🙂
